Zurich Airport to Chur Transfer

Zurich Airport to Chur Transfer – Luxury Chauffeur Service
Chur sits 120 kilometres south-east of Zurich Airport at the point where the Rhine Valley enters the canton of Graubünden. The transfer takes approximately 1 hour 15 minutes via the A3 motorway, a drive that leaves the Zurich metropolitan area, follows the Rhine south-east through Winterthur and Schaffhausen country, and arrives in the oldest city in Switzerland.
Chur is the capital of Graubünden, the largest canton by area in the country and one of the most geographically complex. Three official languages are spoken in the canton — German, Romansh, and Italian — and Chur itself operates in German, though the cultural presence of Romansh is felt in place names, street signs, and the institutional life of the cantonal government headquartered there.
Express Transfer provides private door-to-door chauffeur service from ZRH to any Chur address. Your driver monitors your flight from departure and is in the arrivals hall with a name sign before you land. The fare is fixed at booking.
The Route from Zurich Airport to Chur
The transfer from ZRH takes the A3 motorway south from the airport, passing through the eastern shore of Lake Zurich and continuing south-east through Walenstadt before the valley opens into the Rhine plain at Bad Ragaz. From Bad Ragaz, the A13 follows the Rhine upstream to Chur. The total distance is 120 kilometres.
The journey time of approximately 1 hour 15 minutes is consistent across most of the day. The A3 between Zurich and Glarus can carry commuter traffic on weekday mornings, adding up to 15 minutes. The section through the Walensee gorge between Weesen and Walenstadt is one of the more dramatic stretches of motorway in Switzerland, with the road cut directly into the rock face above the lake. After Walenstadt, the valley widens and the final approach to Chur is straightforward.
Chur itself is fully navigable by vehicle. The main hotel addresses, the cantonal government buildings, the old town, and the regional hospital are all accessible by car. Drop-off is door to door throughout the city and in surrounding municipalities including Felsberg, Domat/Ems, and Trimmis.

Chur for Business
Chur is the administrative, legal, and judicial centre of Graubünden, which means it draws a consistent flow of professional visitors working with cantonal government, the courts, the regional hospital (Kantonsspital Graubünden), and the academic institutions based in the city. The HTW Chur, the University of Applied Sciences of the Grisons, attracts visiting academics and conference delegates from across Switzerland and from the wider Alpine research community.
The energy and infrastructure sector is also well represented in the Chur area, with companies involved in hydroelectric power management, mountain infrastructure, and Alpine engineering operating from the canton’s capital. For business travellers making this journey, the Business Sedan provides a composed, professional cabin for a 75-minute transfer that often follows a connecting flight from a long-haul hub.
Our corporate chauffeur service supports companies and organisations running regular transfer programmes on the ZRH to Chur route with consolidated invoicing and multi-arrival coordination.

About Chur
Chur carries the distinction of being the oldest continuously inhabited city in Switzerland, with documented settlement going back more than 5,000 years. The site was occupied during the Neolithic period, developed as a Roman town under the name Curia Raetorum, served as the seat of a bishop from the 4th century, and has been the capital of a Swiss administrative territory in one form or another ever since. The depth of this historical layering gives the old town a density that larger Swiss cities with more complicated histories often lack.
The Altstadt is compact and well-preserved, built on a raised promontory above the Plessur River where it joins the Rhine. The episcopal quarter at the top of the hill contains the Cathedral of the Assumption, built over the remains of successive earlier churches, and the Bishop’s Court complex, which houses the Rätisches Museum, the main archaeological and historical collection for the canton. The museum holds Neolithic, Roman, and medieval artefacts excavated from Chur and the surrounding region over more than a century of systematic excavation.
The lower old town around the Kornplatz and Postplatz is more commercial and lively, with market activity several days a week and a restaurant and café culture that reflects the Alpine valley town character rather than the tourist-facing aesthetics of the resort towns nearby.
The Rhine promenade below the old town is a popular walking area in summer, and the vineyards on the hillside above Chur, the Bündner Herrschaft wine region begins just north of the city, produce Pinot Noir in a style that is distinctive to the alpine climate and continental exposure of Graubünden.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long does the transfer from Zurich Airport to Chur take?
Approximately 1 hour 15 minutes under normal conditions via the A3 and A13 motorways. Weekday morning traffic on the A3 south of Zurich can add 10 to 15 minutes. The Walensee section is a fixed-speed zone and your driver plans for this.
Can I continue to Davos, St. Moritz, or Arosa from Chur?
Yes. All Graubünden resort destinations are accessible from Chur. For most guests, booking a direct transfer from ZRH to the resort address is more practical than booking to Chur and arranging a separate onward transfer. See our ski resort transfer service, our Davos transfer page, and our St. Moritz transfer page for details.
Is the fare fixed regardless of traffic?
Yes. The fare is confirmed at booking and does not change regardless of traffic conditions, the route taken, or the time of day. No meters and no supplements of any kind. See our how it works page.
Where does the driver meet me at Zurich Airport?
Your driver is in the public arrivals hall at ZRH, beyond passport control and baggage reclaim, holding a sign with your name. 60 minutes of free waiting is included from landing. See our Zurich Airport transfer page for a full guide to the arrivals meeting point.
