Zurich Airport to Brig-Glis Transfers

Premium Private Transfers from Zurich Airport to Brig-Glis
Brig-Glis is a small town of around 14,000 people at the head of the upper Rhône Valley in the canton of Valais, approximately 265 kilometres from Zurich Airport via the A1 and A9 motorways. The transfer takes approximately 2 hours 45 minutes, a long drive south-west through the Swiss Plateau and then up the Rhône valley as it narrows progressively into the high Alps.
Most passengers booking this transfer are not stopping in Brig-Glis itself. They are arriving at the town because it is the last point in the valley before the road network splits towards Zermatt, Saas-Fee, the Simplon Pass to Italy, and the Aletsch glacier region. For guests heading to any of these destinations, Brig-Glis is where the motorway ends and the mountain roads begin.
Express Transfer operates private door-to-door service from ZRH to Brig-Glis and to all the resort addresses above and beyond it. Your driver is in the ZRH arrivals hall with a name sign before your flight lands. The fare is fixed at booking and does not change.
Trip Details: Distance, Time & Vehicle Options
The transfer from ZRH takes the A1 motorway south-west past Bern and continues on the A9 through Sion, Sierre, and Visp before reaching Brig at the head of the valley. The total distance is 265 kilometres. Beyond Visp, the Rhône valley narrows significantly and the character of the drive changes from open motorway to a more contained valley road flanked by steep vineyard terraces and progressively higher mountain walls.
The A9 ends at Brig, which is the geographical terminus of the Swiss motorway network in this direction. Everything beyond Brig is accessed by cantonal and communal roads, which means that Brig-Glis is functionally the last point at which a private transfer from ZRH operates on major roads.
Journey time is approximately 2 hours 45 minutes under normal conditions. Friday afternoons during ski season, particularly between December and March, see significant resort-bound traffic on the A9 south of Montreux. Your driver monitors conditions and will advise on departure timing based on your landing time and the day of the week.

Gateway to Zermatt
The most common reason passengers book a transfer to Brig-Glis is to continue to Zermatt. The Mattertal, the valley that leads south from Visp to Zermatt, passes through Brig-Glis as the A9 terminates. From Brig, the valley road continues 35 kilometres to Täsch, the last car-accessible village before Zermatt. Zermatt itself is car-free and accessed only by the Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn mountain railway from Täsch or Visp.
For guests travelling to Zermatt, Express Transfer can take you directly to the Täsch car park and the Zermatt shuttle train terminal, or to the Visp train station if you prefer to board the mountain railway further down the valley. Alternatively, a direct ZRH to Zermatt transfer covers the entire journey in a single booking. The route passes through Brig-Glis automatically.
If Zermatt is your final destination, we recommend booking directly to Zermatt rather than to Brig-Glis, as the fare calculation and logistics are cleaner as a single through transfer.

About Brig-Glis
Brig-Glis is the administrative centre of the Brig district and the largest town in the upper Valais. The two halves of the municipal name reflect its constituent villages: Brig, the historic town centre on the north bank of the Rhône, and Glis, the village with its pilgrimage church of the Gliserkirche to the north. The merger of the two municipalities into a single commune was completed in 1972.
The dominant building in the old town centre is the Stockalper Palace, the largest private baroque palace in Switzerland, built between 1658 and 1678 by Kaspar Jodok von Stockalper. Stockalper made his fortune controlling the Simplon trade route between northern Europe and Italy and used it to build a palace that remains one of the most architecturally impressive secular buildings in the country. The three towers, named Kaspar, Melchior, and Balthasar after the Three Kings, are visible from throughout the valley.
The Jesuit church adjacent to the palace and the narrow lanes of the old town give Brig a more distinctly Italian character than most Swiss towns at this altitude, a consequence of its long history as a crossing point between Switzerland and Italy and the cultural exchange that the Simplon route sustained over centuries.
The Kollegium Spiritus Sanctus, the Jesuit college founded in 1662, still operates as a cantonal school and gives the town an educational and intellectual density unusual for its size.
