Winter road

The winter road to Zermatt

We drive via Bern and Spiez to Kandersteg and take the Lötschberg car train to Goppenstein (15 minutes, you stay in the car), then through the Rhône valley via Visp to Täsch. The Grimsel, Furka and Nufenen passes close in winter.

Other ways into Valais: via Lucerne, Andermatt and the Furka car train (about 20 min) from Realp to Oberwald, then Brig; or by road only via Lausanne, Martigny and Sion. The Grimsel Pass and the Furka Pass road are closed in winter. • If the Lötschberg car train is not running, we take the Furka car train (Realp–Oberwald) or the road through the Rhône valley via Lausanne. Car-train fees are included in your price.
  • In winter, every car runs on winter tyres. 4x4 vehicles and snow chains are available.
  • Reach us 24/7 once your ride is confirmed: +41 76 218 98 64, phone or WhatsApp.

If a road is closed, we look for another route and check official information. If there is none, we wait with you until it reopens or, if you prefer, drive you to the nearest train station and help you buy your ticket. You are never left on your own. A detour or waiting because of a road closure costs you nothing extra.

Snow and traffic can add time; we don't promise a fixed winter travel time.

Good to know

Zermatt transfer: your questions

How long is the drive from Zurich to Zermatt?

About 240 km and about 3 h 45 in normal conditions to Täsch, then 12 minutes by shuttle train to Zermatt. Snow, traffic and the car train can add time, so we don't promise a fixed winter travel time.

Can you drive us into Zermatt?

No. Zermatt is car‑free: only vehicles with a cantonal permit may use the road from Täsch. We drive you to the Matterhorn Terminal Täsch, where the shuttle train continues to Zermatt (how it works).

How does the change in Täsch work?

We stop at the free Kiss & Ride zone of the terminal. Your chauffeur unloads your luggage and skis, helps you load a luggage trolley and shows you the way to the train. The trolleys are free (CHF 5 deposit) and go on the shuttle train, which leaves every 20 minutes in the daytime and takes 12 minutes. The train ticket is not included; buy it at the terminal.

Which road do you take in winter?

Via Bern and Spiez to Kandersteg, then the Lötschberg car train to Goppenstein and on via Visp to Täsch (route map). If the Lötschberg car train is not running, we take the Furka car train or the road through the Rhône valley. The Grimsel, Furka and Nufenen passes are closed in winter. Car-train fees are included in your price.

Do skis and snowboards cost extra?

No, they travel free. Write the number of ski pairs and snowboards and, if you know them, the ski lengths in the booking comment, so we can plan the right car and rack.

Which car for a family of four with skis?

A Business Van: up to 6 passengers and 6 suitcases, and the skis travel with you if you tell us the pairs in advance. Two sedans with roof racks are the other option.

My flight is late: do I pay for waiting?

No. We track your flight; a delay moves your pickup, and your 60 minutes of free waiting run from the new pickup time.

How early should we leave Zermatt for our flight?

Meet your chauffeur in Täsch 7 hours before a long-haul flight, 6½ hours before a flight within Europe; on heavy-snow days add an hour. Allow about 45 minutes from your Zermatt hotel to Täsch. Between about 01:00 and 06:00 the shuttle train runs only at weekends; if you need to be in Täsch then, stay the last night in Täsch or book a local taxi from Zermatt to Täsch.

What does the price include, and when is it higher?

The from-price is for a Comfort Sedan, one way, to or from Täsch. Every price is all‑inclusive: VAT, parking, airport fees, tolls, tunnels and car trains. It is higher for a larger class and on a few peak dates; if your date is one of them, the booking tells you. You see the exact price before you pay. The shuttle train ticket between Täsch and Zermatt is not included.

Can I cancel?

Yes. You get a full refund if you cancel at least 24 hours before the originally confirmed pickup time. A flight delay does not move this deadline. If you cancel within 24 hours, or don't show up, the full amount may be retained.
